Alas Babylon (nuvocoke@gmail.com)

The wind burned like fire as the sky started spinning around...
Everyone who looked up was blinded by the sight
of the sun as it came crashing down...

Some people that were standing in the center of things
aren't standing anywhere, anymore... the outlines of their shadows
on the wall are complete and their ashes ride the wind forevermore...

Nagasaki... sister city... Hiroshima...
Get drunk on saki and have pity on the memory of pa and ma...
Alas Babylon, fire fell from the sky... angels of death
spitting black rain in your eye... Alas Babylon under a mushroom cloud...
the scene of your sufferings... your funeral shroud...

The silver bird flew alone that day, its engines played a dirge to the sky...
Of the adults about their business and the schoolkids at play...
very few people expected to die...

The wind is now a gentle breeze and the sky is a brilliant blue...
Everyone who looks up tries to put aside the past
and build a better future that protects me and you...

Some people standing in the center of things
don't have a very long memory... the outlines of the shadows
on the wall may fade away, but the ashes ride the wind for eternity...
