Flowers & Rainbows & Smiley Faces (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(CHORUS) flowers & rainbows & smiley faces
turn up in the very most curious places...
(verse) a girl wears a flower in her hair...
don't get much curiosity there...
but, put that flower in the muzzle of a soldiers gun...
now you've got the attention of everyone... (CHORUS - twice)
(verse) maybe that rainbow up in the sky
is a reminder of promises from way on high...
more likely, it's just a little moisture and sun...
mother nature's watercolors for everyone... (CHORUS-twice)
(verse) they've got smiley face stickers, shirts, and keychains...
smiley faces are imbedded in most of our brains...
there are smiley faces everywhere... you can't get away...
I've seen smiley face tattoos where I shouldn't say... (to change)
(change) I've got to wonder if there's secret government bases...
full of flowers & rainbows & smiley faces...
that they use to keep us running in their little rat races...
(CHORUS-twice)
(verse) flowers in your tinctures... flowers in your tea...
flowers in the perfume that attracts you to me...
rainbows on your flags, fences, banners, and walls...
gotta wonder if the answer's somewhere over them all...
(CHORUS-twice)
(verse) don't it seem a little sinister, strange, or weird?
being drowned by smiley faces seems like something to fear...
if your brain's been washed with "happy thoughts" most all of the time...
world leaders and their governments would think that's just fine...
(CHORUS-multi)

Hippie Poetry

|
|||
Hippie Poetry (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) it's got its own flow... like that river with
tangerine trees & marmalade skies... and words we all know...
like peace, love, & kindness... meant to soothe & mesmorize...
(verse) it takes us to where there are pretty things growing
and glowing in the air, diamonds shine with multi-faceted
brilliance and more colors than your eyes can bear...
(refrain) so, what can it be, this marvelous splendor to see?
whoa, hippie poetry... what can we do to get our message to you?
whoa, hippie poetry... whoa, hippie poetry... whoa, hippie poetry
(CHORUS) hippie poetry is free & wild, it doesn't cost a dime...
the phrases are all natural and organically in rhyme...
participation is optional, just listen, if you choose...
but if you wish to communicate, what have you got to lose?
(change) why don't you come & share some hippie poetry?
peace & love & kindness are the key...
our ideals will come alive when you're with me...
why don't you come & share some hippie poetry? (3rd line refrain)
(verse) you don't need to know fancy prose, or strict rules
of simile & metaphor... all it takes is your mind...
and the willingness to share simple truths from within your core...
(verse) the gentle ideals of faith & forgiveness live in us
from head to toe, when you choose to be kind, empathy frees your mind
and shows you which way to go... (refrain)
(verse) you don't need to drop LSD, or do mushrooms for creativity...
it's about being real and revealing yourself...
for the free spirit that we all strive to be... (refrain) (CHORUS)

Hippies Never Seem To Go Away (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) since the dawn of the present age, from back in those
good old Haight-Ashbury days, have you noticed that some things
just never seem to change... from roses red to violets blue and
politicians still not listening to you, there's a synchronicity
to how our history replays...
(bridge) but just remember that when it's all said and done
there's a truism we can always count on... have you noticed
that hippies never seem to go away?
(CHORUS) hippies never seem to go away... if you invite them
over for a meal they'll still be here the next day... and once
they've spent a night or two at your place, they'll still be
there, weeks later, smiling in your face... have you noticed that
hippies never seem to go away?
(singalong) hippies never seem to go away? (x4)
(verse) though flower power has come and gone, the ganja smoke is
still blowing strong... and the summer of love continues to flow
through many a song... from drum circles in the park, to buskers
wailing out in the dark, the timeless essence of our free spirits
still remains... (bridge) (CHORUS)
(verse) in a future of tranquility, where the world has found
peace and harmony, hopefully we'll see the value of just what
used to be... and we'll play the old sixties songs while a
bunch of rainbow children sing along... and those old hippie
elders will lead the reverie... (bridge) (CHORUS)

I Heard You Singing In The Dark (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) I've seen you once or twice before, you're always standing
by a door, I know you wait there for awhile, I've had the chance
to see you smile... although I don't know your name, you seem
familiar just the same, kindred spirits aren't we all? we've just
got to heed the call...
(CHORUS) I watched you dancing in the park, I saw you waiting for
a bus, I heard you singing in the dark, a song that could have been
for us... I walked right by you on the street, you were out there
busking, trying to get something to eat, I heard you singing in the
dark, I watched you dancing in the park...
(singalong) I watched you dancing in the park, I heard you singing
in the dark, I watched you dancing in the park, I heard you singing
in the dark... (x2)
(verse) you came into the coffee shop, the same one where I always
stop, all the musicians hang out there, you had a flower in your
hair, as you walked across the room, I could smell that Gardenia's
sweet perfume, every head turned in the place, to look upon your
serene face... (CHORUS)
(verse) every now and then it seems, we get an answer to our dreams,
and see the beauty of this world, unfold before us in a swirl...
that's how I feel about you, you're like a vision, an angel, a wish
come true, no better moment could I find then when I've got you on
my mind.. (CHORUS)

I May Prefer Organic...

I May Prefer Organic... (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
well, I may prefer organic... but being a food nazi's not my style
and I may pay for free-range chicken... I will pick it over tofu all the while
I don't care if you're a vegan, or a carnivore...
it's not for me to decide what your teeth are biting for...
when you swallow your food, try not to wallow in your pride...
it's not polite to criticize what others choose to put inside...
well, I may buy at farmer's markets. but I'm not above a pre-packed thing or 3...
when it comes down to a budget, I will gladly accept anything that's free...
I've eaten out of dumpsters at the finest retaurants...
It's amazing what gets thrown away by fancy debutants...
perfectly good produce that is just a little old...
is still good for comsumption even though it can't be sold...
well, I'm not a free-trade junkie, but that chocolate sure tastes real nice...
"politically correct usually means ridiculously high priced...
seaweed snacks will always make a crunchy treat...
but, if you start turning green, well, you are what you eat...
pandas chew on bamboo and apparently that's great...
but, meat's the treat for me whenever I masticate...
(repeat first line multi times - fade)

Sing Along Sweet San Francisco (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) some say the power of the flower... peace n love...
is nothing more than a memory we will never rise above...
but I know there's so much more... I hear it all the time...
in the local music scene and with the words young people rhyme
(CHORUS) sing along... sweet San Francisco...
sing your songs from days gone by...
bear your soul... sweet San Francisco...
lover's serenade... gentle lullaby...
(v) this city's got a vibrant energy... its own astral cosmic flow...
nowhere else on earth quite like it... our beautiful San Francisco...
from south of Market to the sunset n all the neighborhoods in between
we've got a little bit of everything from anywhere you've ever been...
(CHORUS)
(change) can you hear the joyful noise in the air?
beautiful people sharing their music everywhere
let your mind move on as you sing along, unconditional love waits there
and just like that summer of love gone by...
won't you wear some flowers in your hair... (CHORUS - multi)

Tea Time In Amsterdam, (The Legend Of 420) (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) tea time in Amsterdam... 4:20pm, or was that when some boys met
by the wall at San Rafael High? 1971, was it way back then? by ol' stone
faced Louie Pasteur just outside the school... on a quest to find an
abandoned cannabis crop, those 5 waldos set out to break all the rules
(singalong) tea time in Amsterdam was really weed time in Marin (multi)
(verse) there's only 315 active chemicals in your pot- not 420, do you
get the point? ... and the hinderance of public lands is what California
penal code 420 is all about... not smoking a joint, we know national pot
smokers day is on 4/20, but it wasn't that way at the very start... and
the deadheads surely spread the word about 420, but that's only because
they took the legend to heart... (singalong)
(verse) tea time in Amsterdam - could be 4:20, or 5:15... but whatever
hour they choose to partake of the herb, those Amsterstoners had nothing
to do with what 420 means... hey, we all anticipated something epic, to
forever go down in ganja history, well now you know the truth about a
group of high school kids & what a grand ride this has turned out to be
(singalong) tea time in Amsterdam was really weed time in Marin (multi)
and that's where it all begins...

The Glamour... Of Dumpster Diving (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
one of my favorite things to find is free stuff on the street...
jeans, or a jacket, or a pair of shoes at the price that can't be beat
people throw the damndest stuff away, you barely see it when you're driving...
but, if you frequent city sidewalks & alleyways, you are a prime candidate for
(hook) the glamour... of dumpster diving... (twice)
(CHORUS) the glamour of dumpster diving lets you sample everything...
the glamour of dumpster diving lets you dress up like a king...
if you need some furniture, or jewelery, just be patient and you get it for free
if you're lonely and need some company, you might even find a homeless live thing
all your dreams come true with the glamour... of dumpster diving... (hook)
I've spent more than a night in a doorway... homeless with nothing to eat...
my 4 corners were inside a cardboard box with some newspapers as my sheets...
now, I don't really advise that style of life, it's the art of barely surviving
but, if you find yourself awake in that sorry state, you need to learn the skills
secrets and the glamour... of dumpster diving... (hook)
(sing along chant) the glamour of dumpster diving... (multi times)
all your dreams come true with the glamour... of dumpster diving...
the city dumpsters are like a hometown buffet, every manner of food can be found,
fast food, takeout, or fancy gourmet, most times it's barely touched the ground...
if organic's for you, there are crates to sort through, just pay attention to when
they're arriving... it's all good, though it's old, to feed your body & soul...
the government subsidized program known as the glamour... of dumpster diving (CHORUS)
(sing along chant) the glamour of dumpster diving... (multi times)

The World's Going To Pot

The World's Going To Pot (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) you can smoke it, you can drink it, you can spread
it on your toast, you probably always think of it, you can
bake it into your food or you can sprinkle it there too,
with that amazing hemp there's just alot that you can do
(CHORUS) like it or not, the world's going to pot... it's
just about the only thing monsanto hasn't got a patent on
if your thumb's just a little green, you can grow it on
your own... like it or not, the world's going to pot...
(verse) you can weave it, you can wear it, you can wash your
hands, face and feet or shampoo your hair with it, you can
probably do your toenails, or paint your house a colorful hue
'way things are going it'll soon be growing on the moon (CHO)
(change) oh, it's highly medicinal, organic and natural, been
curing ills for thousands of years, big pharma can't control
it, because most hippies just dry and roll it... that freedom
smoke is what the power brokers fear... (CHORUS)

These Sacred Grounds (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) We are gathered here... in this sacred space...
amidst our friends and loved ones...
we share the amazing grace of...
hope and understanding... for this ever evolving now...
we set our sights towards a better way...
with the faith that we know how...
(CODA)
to manifest a reality of peace and hope and love...
where everyone can come together...
in the cycle that lifts us above...
all the drama and expectations which keep us looking down...
as we spiral towards this new age... with heads held high...
we'll dance on these sacred grounds...
(chorus) oh, we'll dance... on these sacred grounds... (twice)
(verse) Destiny has brought us near... the changing of the times...
amongst our friends and loved ones...
we fear nothing... as we climb...
the mountains and pyramids of knowledge old...
revealed to us once again...
we'll rebuild the world that fills our dreams...
and we'll occupy it 'til the end... (to CODA)(to CHORUS-multi)
oh, the drummers will keep on drumming...
and the circle dancers will dance... (x2)
on these sacred grounds...

Where Have All The Flower Children Gone? (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) where have all the flower children gone? where, oh where can
they be? where have all the flower children gone? do I see them in you
and me? wouldn't it be great if peace and love could replace war and
poverty? oh, where have all the flower children gone? have they gone
to graveyards, or are they just asleep? (singalong - first line x4)
(verse) where have all the great leaders gone? where, oh where can
they be? where have all the great leaders gone? have we lost them to
posterity? wasn't there a time when the greater good inspired fairness
and empathy? oh, where have all the great leaders gone? have we lost
them forever to the pages of history? (singalong - first line x4)
(bridge) and where are all the people, standing up for their rights?
marching for their ideals and fighting that good fight... It takes
more than a week, a month, a year to occupy... your very life is in
the balance and you've got to live it 'til you die...
(verse) where have all the young girls gone, the young men, and the old
ones too? if we're all in this together why is it so hard to gather you?
maybe all this digital technology is what's really keeping us apart...
where have all the people gone? if we'd look up from our devices, that
might be a good start... (singalong - first verse, first line x4)
(end tag) where have all the flower children gone? I think they're still
inside of... you and me... let's set them free...

Wild Horses Run (nuvocoke@gmail.com)
(verse) wild horses run, black crows fly... the moon follows the sun
on its timeless journey across the sky... babies are born, people
live, old folks die... for each thing taken someone's gotta give...
every truth finds balance in its lie...
(verse) wild horses run, black crows fly... in the vast multitude
there's always someone who understands why... civilizations reach
their glory, then fall so new ones can rise... shackles are worn
so they may be broken, quiet whispers become the loudest cries...
(singalong) wild horses run, black crows fly... (x4)
(verse) wild horses run, black crows fly... when it's over and done
we'll awake from this dream and understand why... the burdens we
bare, the trials we face, all have their place in the master plan...
the feelings we feel, the loves we love are the result of doing the
best we can... (singalong)
